Moving is exciting! Moving is also time consuming, stressful and quite frankly exhausting. At Lost Pines Maids we aim to make your life easier by providing you with a make ready service to clean up all the messes once you have moved out of your apartment or home. We also have a few tips to make the whole process easier for you from start to finish.
First we recommend that you start by choosing a space to prepare or stage your items to be moved, as well as a set place to box up items to be donated. We recommend donations be taken to Bits and Pieces in Bastrop. They are a local non profit that supports the family crisis center. A hall closet is a great place to start. This allows you to begin the process of packing without creating clutter in your home while you prepare.
To start, you would empty and sort the items in the closet. Then give it a quick clean. With a vacuum get into the corners and all of the shelves with the crevice tool. This will give you a clean space to stage your items that you will move into your new home. We don’t want you bringing unnecessary dust and cobwebs with you.
Next pack up and sort through any holiday or seasonal items. This allows you to go through and get rid of any of those dated/broken items, as well as items that might not work in your new space.
Next clear out the clutter in the bathrooms, the primary bathroom is often the dirtiest room in a house so getting an early start really makes the cleaning in the end a whole lot easier. Remove and recycle any products and creams that are outdated/empty/nearly empty. Plan to use it or lose it so you have less to pack and unpack on moving day. Prepare your toiletry case with all the essentials that will stay with you on move day. Searching for a toothbrush after a long day of moving is no fun at all.
In the kitchen, put your dishwasher to use. Start removing those fridge bins and wash on the quick cycle in the dishwasher. Add an extra pod or some vinegar for any major stills or stuck on ketchup. Don’t forget your vent hood filters. Many people don’t even realize they are there. First soak in the kitchen sink with hot hot water and plenty of dish soap, follow with a quick rinse and again use that dishwasher to finish the job.
Time to tackle the bedroom closets. First pull out any items that you haven’t worn since you moved…and move on! Donate those extra items and items that no longer fit. Pack up any out of season items, and prepare a suitcase with your moving day essentials. Pull out your mismatched or holey socks and use those as disposable rags for cleaning the oven or the baseboards.
Got pets? Make sure they know that you won’t be leaving them behind. Don’t pack up their favorite toy or bed they might get confused looking for it. Prepare the kennel or carrier in advance so they know you are planning a trip. Give that carrier/kennel a dusting of catnip or their favorite pillow.
